ABOUT THE STUDIO

The Chicago Demidov Studio was begun in late 2019 to continue the exploration of the work begun by Andrei Malaev-Babel in developing the work of Nikolai Demidov into concrete form.  This studio will take his methodology, lovingly (and painstakingly) derived directly from Demidov's writings and philosophy, and introduce it to the Chicago theatre community.

This studio is one of only a handful across the world, joining associates in London and Athens in providing a stable place to explore genuine freedom onstage with guidance from Professor Malaev-Babel.

ABOUT NIKOLAI DEMIDOV

Demidov was a contemporary of Stanislavsky, and for many years worked closely with him.  He was associated with the Moscow Art Theatre, its Fourth Studio, and even assisted in editing An Actor Prepares.  However, as Stanislavsky codified his system, Demidov continued to push forward, not satisfied with Stanislavsky's determination that inspiration was not within reach of a normal actor.
